08 Mar Accelerated BSN Cohort at UMU Achieves 100% NCLEX Pass Rate
Building on a tradition of successful nursing students, the University of Mount Union’s first cohort of students in its Second-Degree Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program achieved a 100% first-time passage rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
In a time, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, where the national average on NCLEX-RN dropped from 88.18% in 2019 to 86.57% in 2020, the Department of Nursing at Mount Union produced its third traditional four-year pathway cohort with a 100% pass rate and it’s first post-baccalaureate, 18-month accelerated pathway cohort with a 100% pass rate. Both pathways, continue to boast a high retention rate of 92% and 85% respectively.
“Our faculty and students continue to be exemplary,” said Dr. Tim Meyers, professor and chair of the Department of Nursing. “To achieve these types of results, in the middle of pandemic with ever changing pedagogic modalities being implanted, is beyond imaginable. I could not be more proud of our students and our faculty for their continued dedication to the profession of nursing. We’re ecstatic to know that our Department of Nursing produced graduates who were up to the challenge to make an immediate impact during this pandemic. Congratulations to all of the new University of Mount Union graduates that are now registered nurses!”
NCLEX is an exam organized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing which is, “dedicated to developing psychometrically sound and legally defensible nurse licensure and certification examinations consistent with current practice.”
