10 Jun Choose Mount Scholarship Available for Local Transfer Students
The University of Mount Union continues to address college affordability and make its education accessible to students of all backgrounds by establishing the Learn Local: Choose Mount Scholarship. This scholarship is available for transfer students in the Carroll, Columbiana, Holmes, Mahoning, Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne County areas beginning in the fall of 2020. Students will receive an award equal to 50 percent of a student’s entering-year tuition and excludes room, board, and fees at Mount Union. To receive the scholarship, students must meet the necessary criteria.
“Mount Union recognizes that students may be rethinking their college choices as the safety and comfort of being closer to home during this national health crisis might be more appealing than the uncertain nature of travel,” said Lindajean Heller Western, vice president for enrollment management at Mount Union. “We’d like to make it easier for those students to find their college home at Mount Union.”
Beginning in the fall of 2020, the Learn Local: Choose Mount Scholarship will be awarded to transfer students from counties neighboring Stark County. It joins the Stronger Stark Scholarship in encouraging local students to consider a Mount Union education. Students must have graduated from a high school or have an address in the eligible counties at the time they submit their Mount Union application.
Mount Union has been recognized nationally for its dynamic pathways to support transfer students. In March, Mount Union was named to the 2020 Transfer Honor Roll by the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society for its transfer student support. Mount Union was one of only eight institutions in Ohio and 123 across the nation to earn a place on the Transfer Honor Roll.
“We take pride in our ability to create efficient and meaningful pathways for our transfer students from work done at previous institutions,” said Eric Young, director of admission at Mount Union.
In addition to the Learn Local: Choose Mount Scholarship, Mount Union has increased its commuting distance. To better meet the needs of students who, because of safety, financial, or other reasons, prefer to reside at home and commute to Mount Union, the University will permit students who live within 60 driving miles to commute from their permanent home address.
