Making Connections: Music, Art & the Humanities in a Virtual Community

The Otterbein University Department of Music will present a virtual cross-curricular departmental showcase titled “Making Connections: Music, Art and the Humanities in a Virtual Community.” The free streamed showcase will premiere on YouTube at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, and will feature large and small performing ensembles, as well as student soloists.

Making Connections: Music, Art & the Humanities in a Virtual CommunityAfter the premiere, “Making Connections” will remain available on the Otterbein YouTube channel. This production is one way the Department of Music is staying connected to the community in the absence of in-person public concerts.

The unique nature of the “Making Connections” project is that the repertoire performed in the video parallels content that is being taught in academic courses in the Music, Art and English departments this semester. Audiences enjoying the “Making Connections” video will also be able to access additional content that will include a variety of student research and projects centered on the music of the Baroque and Classical periods of music and art. Some of this content will be added through the end of the term, even after the video premieres.

The intent of the “Making Connections” project is to build interdisciplinary relationships between departments, even while physically distanced from each other in learning. Bridging the gap between academic and performing projects will create deeper understandings for students and bring them together in a sense of purpose.
