26 May Malone University to Launch Professional Writing and Editing Program
Malone University is establishing a new program in professional writing and editing which will prepare graduates for success in a variety of industries.
“Graduates of this type of program are in high demand,” said Malone University Provost Greg Miller. “In today’s competitive job market, strong writing abilities can separate good candidates from exceptional ones. The new professional writing and editing program at Malone will help students develop critical-thinking and problem-solving skills to enable them to better articulate sound arguments on behalf of employers and customers. Professional writing and editing are among the top marketable traits in entry-level employment across industries, not just in jobs that focus on writing exclusively.”
Students can choose from concentrations including digital arts, marketing, communication, or creative writing so that carefully-honed skills will enhance their professional contributions to whatever field they choose.
“This program will provide a great balance between writing needs in the workplace and the writer as an individual. I like that it emphasizes both. In today’s workplace, the ability to integrate art and creativity with purpose-driven writing is a desirable skill. In professional writing, effective storytelling will help good writers become great writers,” said Ashley Wright ’08 from the Stark Metropolitan Housing Authority.
Malone students will have access to a supportive community of writers through participation in off-campus retreats and have the opportunity for membership to the international honors society Sigma Tau Delta. Honors society members can attend social events, regional theatre performances, and participate in community service.
