Medical Spanish Minor Now Available at University of Mount Union

University of Mount Union is pleased to announce it has added a minor in medical Spanish to its academic offerings. The program is designed to help healthcare employees meet the needs of their Spanish-speaking patients.

Medical Spanish Minor to be Available at University of Mount Union“Given that communication between healthcare practitioners and patients is paramount, the program will help medical workers acquire the communicative skills needed to service Spanish-speaking patients,” said Gregg Courtad, professor of Spanish.

The program was inspired by Mount Union alumni working in the medical field who noted interpreters were not always on hand at medical facilities in the moments when they were most needed.

Courses in the medical Spanish minor include anatomy, pathology and epidemiology. The program will also cover cultural themes that will allow better communication with Hispanic patients.

All courses are available online or able to be delivered online, giving undergraduate students and current healthcare workers the flexibility to take courses that work with their schedule.
