29 May Healthcare Administration Program Available at UD this Fall
The University of Dayton will launch a new healthcare administration program this fall that will focus on community health, policy and communication, and deliver the administrative management and leadership skills graduates need to enter the workforce.
“We started working to develop this degree pathway for students interested in healthcare administration before COVID-19, but the pandemic has certainly renewed the focus on the importance of community health issues and the challenges inherent in communicating health policy that our students will study in this program,” said Joe Valenzano, chair of the department of communication.
The undergraduate pathway is a concentration in healthcare administration for students who double major in communication and political science. The program also includes classes in the department of health and sport science.
“Students will benefit from the interdisciplinary nature of this program because the professional world is not siloed,” said Anne Crecelius, interim chair of the department of health and sport science. “Healthcare administration professionals need to speak across disciplines. This program will prepare graduates who are broadly versed in the complexity of health communication, policy and application.”
The medical and health services management field is growing much faster than average, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The program will prepare graduates for careers in the health care sector, which accounts for nearly a fifth of the U.S. gross domestic product, according to Investopedia.
