Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) is joining with Cleveland-based Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) to create an early admission pathway for Ohio Wesleyan students seeking to earn a Master of Science in Management (MSM)-Finance degree from Case Western Reserve’s Weatherhead School of Management.

Through the new agreement, Ohio Wesleyan students accepted into the Weatherhead School will receive a $10,000 scholarship for its MSM-Finance program – a STEM degree – and have the potential to receive additional merit-based scholarships. Applications are being accepted now, with application fees waived for OWU students.

To be eligible for early decision acceptance into the Weatherhead School, Ohio Wesleyan students must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher at the end of their junior year, and have completed specific OWU economics, business, and accounting classes with at least a B in each course.

In addition, the students must take either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) test, and have earned a score in at least the 75th percentile for admission.

To begin at Case Western Reserve, admitted students must complete all of their coursework at Ohio Wesleyan with a final grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Once through the admission pathway and enrolled, the students can select from four career-focused tracks:

  • Financial Big Data Analytics (STEM eligible)
  • Corporate Financial Analytics (STEM eligible)
  • Risk Management Analytics (STEM eligible)
  • Corporate Finance

In addition, the Weatherhead School offers a course in artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology. The course places an emphasis not only on understanding the theoretical underpinnings of various AI models, but also on building, evaluating, and critiquing AI models as they apply to the finance industry.

Case Western Reserve is part of the CFA Institute University Recognition Program, with the Weatherhead School’s MSM-Finance program acknowledged for incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and emphasizing the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Graduates are well-positioned to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, widely regarded as the most respected investment credential in the world. Ohio Wesleyan’s Finance Economics program also is part of the CFA Institute University Recognition program.

“Ohio Wesleyan is excited to work with Case Western Reserve to create this new pathway for our students at the highly-regarded and highly-ranked Weatherhead School of Management,” said OWU Provost Charles L. Stinemetz. “The Weatherhead School’s Master of Science in Management-Finance program will help OWU graduates to make valuable contributions in the areas of corporate finance, financial modeling, valuation, derivatives, risk management, and financial econometrics.”

“Collaboration and creating pathways to higher education are core values at the Weatherhead School, and we look forward to welcoming and working with the excellent students from Ohio Wesleyan as they pursue their educational and career goals,” said Ted Evans, senior director of admissions at the Weatherhead School.
