04 May Hiram College, Tri-C Form Pathway for Honors Students
Hiram College, in partnership with Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), is pleased to announce a new articulation agreement that creates a seamless and sequential progression of academic courses from the associate level to the baccalaureate level for honors students.
The pathway offers students direct acceptance into Hiram’s Eclectic Scholars program upon completion of the honors program at Tri-C with a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher.
“Our scholars study in diverse academic fields and follow a variety of passions, but they all are actively engaged in the energy of Hiram College,” says Paul Gaffney, Ph.D., director of the Eclectic Scholars Honors Program and associate professor of English at Hiram. “This new partnership will ensure that transfer students from Tri-C will be able to complete the course of honors with all of the enrichment available to other Hiram students and be prepared for endless opportunities beyond graduation.”
As part of Hiram’s Eclectic Scholars program, students are given many opportunities for academic enrichment, professional development, and interdisciplinary discourse. Students take a series of seminar-style courses that are based around self-exploration, problem solving, and discussions that span disciplines. Each semester, scholars are also permitted to register early for a course of their choice, often using this as an opportunity to take an upper-level course with greater academic challenge. Students can also take an additional three credit hours during one semester of the academic year at no additional cost. Many students use this perk to complete internships or research for credit.
Starting in fall 2020, Henry Honors Hall will be the new home of the Eclectic Scholars Honors Program. The designated living space will bring together a network of peers who are like-minded and who respect one another, the concept of community, and the importance of academic and intellectual life. Additionally, students will have access to programs designed specifically for them, as well as spaces that foster collaboration and support from peers. Qualifying students may also receive an annual housing scholarship for being in the program.
