Ohio Christian to Offer Master of Education (MEd) Degree

Ohio Christian to Offer Master of Education (MEd) DegreeOhio Christian University has announced a new Master of Education (MEd) graduate degree. Approved and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and the Ohio Department of Higher Education, the new Master of Education degree will begin June 1, 2020.

The degree consists of 36 hours total made up of 18 core hours and 18 hours in a specialization area. Specializations include Special Needs, English as a Second Language, English, and Mathematics.

“This is a degree created by teachers for teachers with real-classroom applications and relevant, current information,” says Dr. Valerie Jones, OCU’s Teacher Education Department Chair. “Students can also expect prayer, devotions, and the Christian Worldview in every class.”

The degree will be available online and takes 2 years to complete. Classes are designed to be taken one course at a time, with scheduled breaks for holidays and with the start of the school year in mind. Each course lasts 6 weeks and costs $1,014 or $338/credit hour, although students may qualify for Financial Aid.

Admission requirements:

1. A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally-accredited or ABHE institution.

2. Hold a current, unencumbered, teaching license*.

3. An undergraduate cumulative GPA average of 3.0 or an undergraduate GPA of 2.75 and 9 credit hours of graduate courses with an overall 3.0 GPA

*This program does not lead to initial licensure. Applicants must possess a teaching certificate/license for admission into the M.Ed. Program. The expectation is that an applicant is a practicing teacher as many of the courses require experiences in a classroom.
